Dr Fatimah Shah Biography

She served in APWA (All Pakistan Women Association) from 1948 until she lost her sight in 1960 and as such, she also quitted from medical practice. She confined herself within the premises of her house. After few weeks Dr. Fatima Shah had been motivated by a foreign Blind lady Dr. Isabella Grants and she founded an Association of the Blind in 1960 namely “Pakistan Association of the Blind “its head quarter was in Karachi former capital of Pakistan. She developed the Association by spreading the network of the Association at district and provincial levels all over the country as well as on International level by introducing a number of activities, services and projects for the welfare and betterment of blind community in particular and for the disabled persons in general.

Dr. Fatima Shah represented Pakistan Association of the Blind in many International conferences to uplift the dignity of blind at global level. She was retired at her own will from the office of the president ship of the Association in 1984 after rendering 25 years dedicated and meritorious services.

In recognition of her marvelous services, she received a large number of national and international awards, medals as well as nominations and other honors above all she received award of MBE (Member of the British Empire) for social services rendered to her country during Coronation ceremony of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
